Interview with the Plus Size Nerd

I recently had the opportunity to sit down (via zoom) with the Plus Size Nerd aka Nancy Basile, and have a chat about body confidence, body positivity, and about my new book.

As always, she is a joy to speak with! She knows her stuff, and wants the same things as I want, which is for plus size nerds everywhere to feel confident and positive with themselves. You are great right this very second!

Please enjoy the video and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

This year we had a short visit to SDCC because we had tickets to Hugh Jackman in San Diego earlier in the week.

Our first stop was for a traditional selfie:

Then a step and repeat pic:

Dress by Disney Dress Shop, which is no longer available, but you can find it on Ebay here.  Game of Thrones shirt from Target.  Shoes by Converse.

Afterwards, we took a trip to the Her Universe Fashion Show.  This was the 6th annual fashion show, and boy it was amazing!  Watch the video below:

Here what we wore to the show:

The next day we hit the floor and I picked up some of the pieces I saw at the show, including the Loki dress below.

During the Marvel panel in Hall H (which we weren’t willing to sleep on the sidewalk to wait for…), Marvel revealed some details on the Black Widow film and Jane Foster will be The Mighty Thor in the next Thor film!

Then we had to hit the road and bid SDCC good-bye for another year.

Until next time…

WonderCon Recap: Captain Marvel Dress

Our last recap of WonderCon is my Captain Marvel dress by Her Universe from the Disney Dress Shop.

Let’s break it down and do the Team Build Checklist. Print your own Checklist here.

The Team Leader- The Dress

Like all dresses from the Disney Dress Shop, this dress is retro-styled and size inclusive.

FaceApp_1554760813226

I love the fit of the dress and it is ready-made for Dapper Day, stylized cosplay or everyday.

Get your own dress here.

The Brick- The Dress

In this case, the team leader and brick are both the dress.  In other cases, a Captain Marvel necklace might be needed, but the dress includes the star on her chest.

The Scientist- DIY Saddle Shoes

Shoe DIY right here.

The Exotic- Cardigan, Gloves, Petticoat and Scarf from Amazon

Again, I recommend Amazon as your first stop when looking for accessories to dress up your cosplays and bounds.  Get the cardigan here. Get the gloves hereGet the petticoat hereGet the scarf here.  All four from Amazon, and also all come in a gazillion colors.

The Exotic Part 2- The Handbag

The purse I got is from Wish.  I do recommend Wish for handbags and other accessories, but I do not recommend them for clothing or make-up.  The clothing sizing is sketchy as best (runs beyond tiny) and the make-up is usually knock-offs of name brands.  Because of that, you can’t depend on the ingredient lists on the packaging.  But, if you want a purse for yourself, click this link.

The Blaster- Hair and Make-up

This cosplay didn’t require a wig or any super special make-up.  For pin-up, a nice red lip is a great finishing touch.  I wear “Love Is On” by Revlon.  Get yours here.

Adaptations for Everyday Wear

This one is pretty simple to adapt to everyday wear. I’d lose the petticoat and that’s pretty much all you need to do to take this look to the office or out and about.

As always, professional pictures by Justin Davidson Photography.  Book him here.  You’ll be glad you did!

Happy Shopping!

Until next time…

WonderCon Recap: In Plain Sight Panel

We had an amazing time at WonderCon, but easily the best part of the trip was our panel, “In Plain Sight”, on Sunday afternoon.

Friday @ 2_00Marriott Marquis North TowerRoom Pacific 24 _ (6)

We had an absolutely amazing time discussing how to integrate geeky and nerdy fashions into your daily wardrobe. We filled up the room and handed out all the ducks too!

Screenshot_20190401-132651_Messenger

We were all in agreement that by bringing your fandoms into your daily wardrobe is a great way to bring out your inner superhero on a daily basis.

Part of the discussion was a review of the Team Build Checklist.  Feel free to download and print it by clicking here.

We enjoyed meeting each and every one of you, and hope to present this panel again at SDCC in July.  I’ll keep you posted.

Pin-Up Iron Man Cosplay

My latest creation for WonderCon was a pin-up Iron Man Cosplay, complete with light up arc reactor!

201904021554241069106

I am super duper proud of this cosplay, so let’s break it down with some shopping links!

I used my handy dandy cosplay Team Build Checklist. Print your own check list here.

The Team Leader- Arc Reactor

I found this fantastic arc reactor online at Etsy.  Get your own here.  It runs on 3, AAA batteries for hours and hours.  I wore it all day at WonderCon (about 7 hours) and the batteries were still going.  It didn’t get hot to the touch or even warm, and it is super lightweight.  The artist provides a sticky pad to adhere it to your clothes, but I utilized the loop to make a necklace out of it.  It didn’t show up in most pictures, but it is super bright.

The Brick- Dress from Amazon

I cannot recommend this dress from Amazon highly enough.  It comes in a gazillion colors and it really and truly size inclusive, going up to 4xl.  I am wearing a 4xl in these pictures.  I apologize for the wrinkled look.  The iron in my hotel room was pretty sad and didn’t do a good job at all getting it pressed for me after unpacking it.  Get your own dress by clicking this link.

The Scientist- My DIY Saddle Shoes

Check out the tutorial post here.

The Exotic- Shrug, Gloves, Sunglasses and Petticoat from Amazon

Again, I recommend Amazon as your first stop when looking for accessories to dress up your cosplays and bounds.  Get the shrug here. Get the gloves hereGet the sunglasses here.  Get the petticoat here.  All four from Amazon, and also all come in a gazillion colors.

Lose the arc reactor and put on an arc reactor pendant instead.  Click this link for a cute one.  I’d also lose the petticoat and that’s pretty much all you need to do to take this look to the office or out and about.
