Outfit of the Day #10: I Might Even Go Dancing, Part Two

To continue with club and/or date wear, I went with a couple of new favorite outfits of mine.  The first are some fabulous mermaid leggings from Castle Corsetry.  Get some of your own here.

I’m wearing a XXL.  I’m a size 18/20 for reference.  Castle Corsetry items are hand made and the attention to detail and the quality really shine through in all of their pieces.  The fabric is shiny, but super soft and stretchy.  Not see-thru at all.  The rise is a natural rise, so leggings stay where they are supposed to.

I like to pair these with a pair or boots and a t-shirt.  Basically, add some fun jewelry and you are good to go on a date or to the club for some dancing or both!

My other new favorite going out on the town outfit is this dress from Living Dead Clothing.  Get it here.

I’m wearing an XL in this dress.  Like other dresses from Living Dead, leggings or biker shorts are needed because their dresses are super short.  They do have some long skater dresses, but most of the dresses are this length. Pair your dress with a pop of color from a leather jacket or cardigan and you are good to go!

Like I said before, I just need to find a date…

Next time, WonderCon recap!

Outfit of the Day #9: I Might Even Go Dancing, Part One

Now that WonderCon 2016 is in the history books, I have to go through all the pics and give you guys a recap.  While I sort through all the information and pictures and such, I thought I would do a couple of Outfit of the Day posts about club wear and date wear.

Photo by Justin Davidson Photography.  Book him here.

This outfit is all about the warrior in me.  I love this dress so much!  The dress is from Living Dead Clothing, and you can buy it here.

The dress is actually a long-sleeved dress.  I had the sleeves hemmed because I live in California and that is what jackets are for, just sayin.  I’m wearing a XXL in this dress.  I am a size 18/20 for reference.  I can wear their XL dresses and leggings, but anytime I can get a little extra room, I will.

Like all Living Dead Clothing, the spandex is super stretchy and not too see-thru.  The dresses tend to run short, unless you can get the style you like in a long skater.  This dress is not a long skater, so leggings are essential.  In the summer months, I will ditch the leggings for biker shorts and combat boots to complete this look.

Date night or dancing night doesn’t usually require a sword (well, with some of the dates I’ve been on…), so here is my date night look, minus weaponry.

The chain mail inspired necklace is from Forever 21.  I wore this recently to a singles mixer and then dancing at the goth club afterwards.  No wardrobe change required.  It worked great for both events.

Next up, some more club wear and date wear.  Now, to get a date…

Outfit of the Day #8- More Everyday Black Widow Cosplay

I decided to make this week Black Widow week!  Anytime is a good time to celebrate Natasha Romanoff after all.  So, I’m focusing on my everyday cosplay Black Widow dress from Torrid.  Here are some shots of it with props for funzies.  These were taken by Justin Davidson Photography.  Book him here.

This dress was made for Torrid by Her Universe.  Shopping guides below.  When not running around with prop guns, I accessorize this dress with my trusty tall boots, a short sleeved cardigan, my Widow necklace and a great leather jacket.  Here are some shots of everyday wear.

I’m wearing a 1X in this dress.  The dress has some stretch to it, which makes it super comfy.  The length and subtlety of the design make this a good choice for work as well as weekend wear.  Torrid has more of this style dress available for Iron Man and Darth Vader, just to name a couple more.  They do have a Cap version, which they have been sold out of forever, but I will eventually get my mitts on one!

Until next time, Happy Shopping!

Outfit of the Day #7- Black Widow Everyday Cosplay

For our seventh Outfit of the Day, we went with one of our favorite characters in the Marvel Universe, Black Widow.  This outfit has a real everyday cosplay or bounding feel to it.  This time of year, wearing a great pair of leggings with tall boots is an easy and comfortable choice.  We were lucky enough to find a great Black Widow women’s t-shirt to go with these fantastic leggings.

The leggings are from Living Dead Clothing in an XL.  I am a size 18/20 for reference.  The fit is great.  Not too see-through, rise is natural and not low-cut, so they stay in place all day.  They are also fairly long for taller gals.  I’ve had these for almost a year, and they still look like new.

The t-shirt is from Her Universe.  I’m wearing a 3X.  This shirt comes in both standard and plus sizing.  The length is good for wearing with leggings in that it isn’t too terribly short.  The fit is pretty true-to-size, but I tend to go a size up in Her Universe to leave a little extra room.  The neckline is very flattering and very much a ladies’ t-shirt and not a man’s shirt or unisex shirt that just happens to have something girly on it.

Anytime you take a selfie in this house, you run the real risk of a Scouttie photo-bomb!

Here’s an up close look at both the leggings and t-shirt.

For accessories, I paired it with my black leather jacket and Widow necklace.  Ms. Romanoff does love her some leather jackets after all!

Outfit of the Day #6- These leggings and I are having a moment…

The other day, I needed to head out to do a couple of quick errands, so I grabbed my basic black leggings and threw on a nerdy shirt and ran out the door.  Inspiration struck.  I decided to do a piece on how to style the basic black legging and freshen up your nerdy t-shirt collection at the same time.  Here are a couple ideas for you:

As you can see, I just paired the leggings with a favorite t-shirt and tall boots.  You can mix this up by wearing a boot in a different color that compliments the colors in the t-shirt as well.  Another thing you can do, is to wear a leather jacket to complete the look and give it another pop of color, like these pictures show:

As you can see from the picture above, adding the brown leather jacket really gives it an everyday cosplay or bounding feel to it.  Because Cap is never without a great brown leather jacket when he’s not in uniform.

You’ll notice that all these t-shirts are regular ‘ol nerdy t-shirts.  They aren’t particularly long or tunic-like.  That is because I feel that leggings are totally pants and should be worn that way.  Now don’t get me wrong, I do love the slimness of the legging paired with something more voluminous on top.  Creates a nice balance, but I want to show you that you can be body-confident.  Wear leggings this way too. I think you’ll be surprised at how elongating this look can be.  Show ’em what you’ve got, I say!

Here are some more looks to give you ideas.  This is a great way to freshen up your look without having to go shopping.  You have at least one of each of these types of pieces in your closet right now.  Take advantage of the tall boot weather and send us some pics of what you come up with!  Scout and I want to see!  Shopping guides are below.

Outfit of the Day #5

For our latest Outfit of the Day, we chose the Captain America pin-up style dress from Hot Topic and Torrid by Her Universe.  This dress was designed by one of the winners of the first ever Her Universe Fashion Show that has now become tradition at San Diego Comic Con.

Here are a couple of fun pictures of the dress taken by Justin Davidson Photography.

For the professional photos, I went full-on 50s with saddle shoes and all, but everyday wear, I wear it with tall boots and a sweater like these photos show:

kimapultme and toni

As you can see from the picture with The Herald of Geek above, we had the start of an Avengers pin-up team going!

The fit of the dress is pretty standard.  The satin material does not have any stretch, but the back has elastic at the top, so there is room for movement.  I’m wearing a 2X from Hot Topic, but you can get larger sizes from Torrid.  Here are the links to both stores:

The shield prop was a lucky find at a Con, but I found one similar here:

Outfit of the Day #4

Our fourth outfit of the day is actually two outfits.  The first is a t-shirt and skirt from Her Universe.  The second is a dress, also from Her Universe, sold at Torrid stores.  Both outfits are a celebration of Star Wars fandom with an emphasis on the light saber.

Here is the first outfit:

20160124_162336-1 (1)

The petticoat is not included with the skirt.  This was my own addition.  I got the petticoat at a dance supply shop online.  Buy one of your own here:

If you want to get a petticoat in black, white or red, save a little money and go to a Halloween Store and get it.  Same thing, just lower cost.

The bowler hat with ears is a find from Forever 21, which unfortunately no longer carries it.  However, I tracked down a similar one here:

Then bobby socks and a pair of Chuck Taylors and you’re done!  This is a great Con going outfit, date outfit or just everyday cosplay outfit.  As a bonus, the t-shirt glows in the dark.  Here is a more up close picture of the shirt:

Pick up these items at Her Universe.  Here is the link to the skirt:

The skirt has absolutely no stretch, so at least one size bigger than you usually do in Her Universe wear.  I am wearing a 4x.  Just remember, no one is going to check the size of your clothes.  It is just a number.  Get what fits well and is comfortable.  Don’t get all hung up on a number on a label nobody will ever see.

Here is the link to the shirt:

The sizing is pretty standard on the t-shirt.  Get whatever size you usually get in Her Universe wear.  I’m wearing a 2x.

The other version of the light saber skirt is actually a dress from Her Universe for Torrid.  I have not found a standard size version of this dress, so we plus sizes have one up for a change.  This is much less pin-up looking, so you can really 50s it up or not, depending on where you want to wear it.  The first version is with the petticoat and Chuck Taylors.  You can also pair it with saddle shoes for an extra vintage look.  It looks like this:

Here’s some up close pics of the necklace and the skirt itself:

The necklace is actually an earring that I turned into a pendant.  I’m not much for dangly earrings, so I bent the fish hook post into a loop and put it on a chain.

Now, if you want to wear this dress to work or to a more conservative function, you can pair it with some boots and lose the petticoat like I’ve done here:

I wear this look to work all the time.  It is super comfortable and the cotton is lightweight for summer as well.  Get one of these dresses here:

I get more compliments on both of these outfits, especially from the gents.  My favorite compliment was actually the day I took these pictures.  “That dress is what is happening today!”  Love that!

Happy Shopping and May the Force Be With You!

Outfit of the Day #3

Our third Outfit of the Day is one of my favorite types of everyday cosplay, what I call the “uniform dress”.  I will write a longer post about the uniform dress and my obsession with it later, but for now let’s focus on this fantastic Black Widow dress from thinkgeek.com. Here are a couple of pictures we took with props because basically we’re a couple of goobers with a selfie stick and we’re not afraid to use it!

Here are some pics showing the dress in more detail:

There are a lot of details on this dress from the stingers on the long sleeves to the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on the sleeve.

20160116_125401 (1)

Scout is wearing a small and I’m wearing a 3X.  I’m a size 18/20 for reference.  I can usually pull off a 2X in dresses like these, but I also prefer a little breathing room if they make the dress in a larger size.  The fit is comfortable, and I really like the length.  It isn’t super short, so you don’t have to wear leggings with it.  All in all, for the price, it’s pretty bad-ass!

One thing to remember with this type of dress, make sure you wash it inside out to keep the design on the dress for as long as possible and wash in cold water.  I never dry mine in the dryer either.  This will shrink in a major way in the dryer.  Also be ready for little cracks to appear in the design.  The design is printed on the fabric, not woven in.

Basically, it is a fun casual or everyday cosplay dress to add to your wardrobe for cosplay parties and cons.

You can get one of your own here: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/iohq/?srp=1

The prop guns are from Disgruntled Veteran on Etsy.  He is amazing at making convention safe and approved props.

Shield is a lucky find at a con, but I found one that is similar here:
