Attention, Nerds! The Hero Within Summer Collection has arrived! I spent last week and will be spending this week, getting orders ready to roll on out the door of our warehouse and to you guys.
For everyone that pre-ordered product, expect the email that your order is on the way very soon.
Here are the new pieces:
Those are all the button down shirts, and here is our latest jacket for Wonder Woman:
I’ll have a later post where I style some of these pieces for women. As you all well know, we women folk have never had a problem styling menswear for ourselves.
If you would like one of these fantastic pieces for yourself, please order one here. They are size inclusive. Our first collection was sized a bit small, so we upped a size and added a 3XL option as well. Check the site for the measurements for each size.
If you already ordered one, keep an eye out for the mail carrier!

I know that make-up is hardly a geeks only thing, but I am raising a geek and this is our experience.
One of the responsibilites and quite frankly, fun, parts of raising a kid, is hearing the question, “Mommy, can I start wearing make-up?” I know if you have a little geeky boy, this might not apply to you, but it just might. Make-up is not a girls-only thing anymore. So, when I speak of raising a girl, I am speaking of my own personal experience of raising a daughter. I don’t mean to make any assumptions of gender in any way.
My answer to that question was an enthusiasic, “YASSSS!” I love make-up. I have way too much make-up, and I absolutely do not care. Dark lipstick, sure, more glitter, yes please. I use make-up for fun.
However, there are times and places for all types of make-up. Gothy for the club, more conservative for the workplace, that kind of thing. So, when teaching my kiddo how to use make-up, I needed to teach her about all the aspects of make-up use.
Just like with putting on a face of make-up, teaching about make-up requires a foundation. Where to begin? Well, I started with proper skincare, which we will go into on a later post, and how to apply a “basic face”, which I learned many years ago from a fantastic book called, “Cindy Crawford’s Basic Face”. I still have my copy to this day, and I was happy to pass it down to my kid. I was pleased to learn that this book is still available on Amazon. Get it here. I recommend the spiral bound version for ease of use.
Ms. Crawford found herself sick in bed after a photo shoot, and to not go nuts with boredom, her friends encouraged her to write a book. Being who she is, she did just that. She didn’t just write any book; what she did was create a manual to make-up with all the basics. Things like picking a good foundation, using concealer, brushes and how to keep them clean, and how to put on your “basic face”. Your basic face should take you about five minutes to apply and be appropriate for work, school, whatever. Her philosophy is that make-up is an option, not a requirement, and if you want to wear it, then make sure you do it in such a way that is occasion and location appropriate.
After you apply your basic face, then if you are headed to a party or a club, then you can build on this basic face by adding a smoky eye, glitter, anything goes.
After you perfect your basic face, then go nuts! I know we do. We recently bought a ton of glitter, cause…glitter!
Next time, we’ll talk more about skincare and fun make-up to try.
Until next time…

OK, so the kiddo and I just came off of a big moviepalooza weekend where we took in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” three times. We have so many thoughts! As always, we gave you a week to see it, so this is full of spoilers. Stop reading if you need to.
Just some thoughts on the new flick from us. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Next up for Marvel, Spidey! Already working on the cosplays…

After years of not being able to make it to the Ren Faire, we finally got to go back this year.
We had a most excellent time. The Faire was celebrating “pirate weekend”. The cosplay, as always, was fantastic!
We attended the Queen’s Joust. Our Knight won!
Here are some more pictures from our day:
Scout’s cosplay and sword are from Spirit Halloween. My Once Upon a Time vest and necklace are from Hot Topic. Our pouches are from Amazon. My parasol is from Chinatown for five bucks. I had never used a parasol before, and believe me, I will never do outside things without one again! What a lifesaver!
We enjoyed our day and Scout finished it with a trip in the giant “hamster” ball. Enjoy this video.
If you want to attend the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, then click here for tickets! Have a great time!

For our latest outfit of the day, we wanted to celebrate the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2” today with some Guardians fashions.
First up I used my cosplay t-shirt and built an everyday outfit around it.
Star Lord t-shirt from redbubble.com. Necklaces are not exact replicas, but close to the ones he wears in the film. I found pendants at an accessory store that looked close and put them on black cords. Walkman is a lucky find on Ebay. Rocket is a new addition at Build a Bear Workshops. I paired the t-shirt with a black pencil skirt from Amazon and wore my Chuck Taylors with it.
My next outfit features my t-shirt acquisition from Red Chapter.
Again, I paired the t-shirt with a pencil skirt from Amazon and my Converse. I also added my Awesome Mix Volume One cassette necklace from thinkgeek.com.
Next up is this fantastic 80’s style t-shirt from Box Lunch. Scarf is from Amazon. I’ve had the gloves so long, I can’t remember where I got them, but I found some just like them on Amazon.
Last outfit is this wonderful pin-up dress with little raccoons all over it. It is just the cutest thing ever!
Here is a close-up of the print and bag:
Dress is from City Chic. Denim jacket from Torrid. Petticoat is from Amazon. Saddle Shoes are from Payless. Bag is from Hot Topic.
We’ve given you guys tons of great ideas of what to wear to the flick this weekend! We will see you there!

For our third and final recap of the wonderful WonderCon 2017, we wanted to recap our panel, “Cosplaying with your Kid”. The panel took place on the last day of the con at a new panel location, the Avalon Ballroom at the Hilton. All of the fan lifestyle panels were presented there.
We ended up with a really good turnout! I’d say we filled up half of the room. This time around we were joined by Deborah and Celia of Ravenpuff Cosplay. Shawn and Gavin of Kid Coulson fame joined us again and Anastasia Washington was kind enough to moderate for us again as well.
We had the opportunity to discuss a number of topics concerning kids and cosplay from having your cosplays themed together, social media rules, adult themes and language at cons and good sources for putting together great cosplays without taking out a loan.
We had so much to talk about, we almost ran out of time! All three kids were fantastic!
As always, we had a great time and really enjoyed bringing this program to you all.
Afterwards, we got some shots of my gender-bend Doctor Strange and Scout’s new Ancient One cosplays.
My cosplay is by Elhoffer Design. Scout’s cosplay is from Chinatown in LA, so I can’t put links to the items, but Amazon has a lot of similar pieces available.
After our panel, we hit the floor, which was full of great booths. Our favorite was the Red Chapter booth with the Ambigram t-shirts. We bought five! Shop them here.
Afterwards, we changed out of our cosplays and went to just hang out with our nerds by the fountain and take in the last hour of the con. WonderCon always goes by way too fast for us. It is our favorite con, and we can’t wait for next year already!
Next up, Ren Faire!
Until next time…
